Tynan Gerard Chapa Date of Birth: Mon, 09/18/2006 Date of Death: Sun, 07/29/2012

Tynan Gerard Chapa, age 5, joined The Big Rodeo in the Sky on July 29, 2012, after bravely battling leukemia for three years and branding the hearts of many near and far.

Although he was known for being shy, Tynan will always be remembered for his humor, tenacity and being wise beyond his years. Though he was blessed with the love and support of thousands, the true blessing was the lesson we were all taught by his battle – how to love, fight, and live like a true cowboy. Among his many interests, Tynan enjoyed bull riding, hunting and baseball.

Tynan is survived by his parents, Janie and Gerardo Chapa Jr., and his older sister, Sykora, age 9. Grandparents; Estella Perez Lassiter, Gerardo B. Chapa and Rene R. Vera. Aunts; Norma Dupree (Michael), Anissa R. Vera. Uncles; Benito Chapa (Berta), Roel Chapa (Nanette), Isidro Vera, Luis R. Vera (Veronica), Flavio R. Vera (Monica) and Joaquin R. Vera. Tynan was preceded in death by his grandmother, Irma Alanis Chapa.

A visitation will be held to celebrate the life of our cowboy at The Church Without Walls on Thursday, August 2, from 6-9 pm. The church is located at 5725 Queenston Blvd. Houston, TX 77084.

The funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 3, at Christ the Redeemer starting at 10:30 am. The church is located at 11507 Huffmeister Rd. Houston, TX 77065. Reception to follow immediately after services.

The Chapa family wishes to express its appreciation and gratitude for the continued prayers, love, support and encouragement that has carried them through this difficult journey.

Tynan, you were such a sweet boy from the time I met you. My daughter Valerie played softball with Sykora on the Wildcats and that's when I first saw your precious face. I'll never forget that day because you were wearing shorts, a tshirt and of course, your cowboy boots! I thought you were simply adorable. You would cheer for your sis and run around the park. Thank you for touching our hearts Tynan! I'm so glad I got to meet such a strong, courageous cowboy. Heaven now has another beautiful angel. I pray that God will comfort and give peace to your mom, dad, and sis Sykora.

Although we never met, you were an inspiration to my family. We often talked about the your love of rodeo, and of the Astros. We thought it was so amazing how someone so young could love something so big. It always put a smile on our faces. We prayed for healing, we prayed for understanding, we still pray for those things for your brave sissy, for your mommy and daddy, and your family. I hope your roping and riding with Lane..you will be missed.

To the Chapa and Vera families:

Thank you for sharing Tynan's story, I know there will never be a day that goes by that you do not miss him and think of him. I pray you all find some peace in time, and comfort in memories. You will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

I met the Chapa Family when Tynan showed up at our first Indians tee-ball season. This adorable boy showed up playing the part of shy but soon after that, his shell came off and he was a professional baseball player in a little body. He was very focused but when he busted out that smile or giggle it spread throughout the team:) Tynan, I count my blessings when God placed you and your family in my life. You brought a whole new meaning to an 8 second ride. The Chapa family will always have a place in my heard. Our prayers continue for healing and strength. God Bless!

My family became friends with the Chapa's through our daughters. It was such a coincidence to find out our sons were the same age as well. Once the boys met, Beckett just wanted to be near Tynan. Tynan was shy so Beckett would just invite himself to sit next to him and follow Tynan and his daddy wherever they would go. It used to make me laugh when Tynan was around, Beckett never even looked back to make sure I was still there. By the end of the girls' softball season- Beckett and Tynan would be running around the softball park by themselves playing an they enjoyed being team mates on their tball team. Beckett had his first sleepover at Tynan's when they were only 4 years old. Tynan taught Beckett to love bull riding and now Daddy has to play the part of the bull quite often. Tynan, you were such a precious, sweet and loving boy. My family has forever been changed because we knew you. You have brought my family closer to God and cemented our faith. We love you Tynan and will always hold fond memories of you and your contagious giggle! I could hear that from the other room and I would always ask your Momma- "Who is that?" she would laugh and say "Tynan" and it would make me giggle.
Janie and Harry my deepest sympathy to both of you! I know this is a hard battle you are now enduring without your precious boy, but please know the love that surrounded Tynan over the past year is still here surrounding the both of you.
    Lots of love
James, Renee, Abby, Riann and Beckett Swinney

I came to know Tynan and the Chapa family through Janie. I've watched this family proceed through Tynan's battle with such grace, conviction and dignity. I am so very sorry for the loss of Tynan. As a mother I cannot begin to know the sorrow. May God bless you all and take away the pain of your loss and fill your heart with memories of the great times you shared together as a family. I pray that Tynan is with his hero's in Heaven. I know that he is whole, pain free and sporting that awesome smile of his. Love to you all!!!!
