Betty Y. Wakefield

Betty Y. Wakefield of Houston, Texas passed away at her home on March 16, 2024 at the age of 88.  Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, KY.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Betty was born in Fruit Hill, KY on February 2, 1936 to Virginia Lancaster Young and Ellis Lee Young. She graduated from Lacy High School in 1954. Betty was employed by Bell Telephone for 33 years beginning her career in Hopkinsville, KY and transferring to Houston, TX in April 1982. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Houston TX and also attended Westway Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Betty was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Pioneers. She enjoyed cooking; cruises; bus trips; playing scrabble; and spending time with her family and friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Virginia and Ellis Young.

Betty is survived by her siblings: Juanita Durham of Paducah, KY; Billy (Janie) Young of Hopkinsville, KY; Nelda Gamble of Hopkinsville, KY; Janice (Gary) Parker of WI; Carolyn Gamble of Hopkinsville, KY; James (Ann) Young of Hopkinsville, KY; and Sharon Oliphant of Ft. Myers, FL. Children: Donna Lord, Dana (Gene) Foote, and Dianne Dixon. Grandchildren: Nikki (Michael) Franks of Friendswood, TX; Katie Foote of Gonzales, TX; Jared (Ceci Batres) Foote of Conroe, TX; Kristi Lord and Kenny (Neriza) Lord of MD. Great Grandchildren: Peyton and Reagan Franks; Val Foote; Zane and Zyler Batres; Jaidenne and Khenna Nelson; Nathan and Kassidy Lord. Great-great grandchild Ezrah Nelson.
